I feel I must warn my fellow modelers about my experiance with the subject ( chrome effect paint) produced by plasti-kote.
I am currently building a Westland Lysander which is not a Guillow's model, getting to the paint stage, I used the said paint on the engine coweling which looked
superb however it failed to dry, the manufacturers say I should have used a special primer, before top coating. So be warned.

Re: chrome effect paint
Try the chrome foils they work pretty good if you insist on that actual chromed look

Re: chrome effect paint
I've had problems with several different chrome sprays drying properly and staying tacky forever. I don't think there was any problem with your prep, as they just seem problematic. I've found them not much more chrome like than a good Testors silver/aluminum paint, so I just use them. If anyone can develop a chrome spray that looks as good as electroplating, such as on plastic model parts, they'll be a millionaire.

http://www.flitemetal.com/
Flitemetal is the self adhesive aluminum covering system designed to give your scale model the authentic natural aluminum appearance of a full size aircraft.
Flitemetal is applied to the surface of sheeted and fiber glassed fuselages, wings, gear struts, weapon systems, and anything made of aluminum or titanium on a full size aircraft.
Flitemetal empowers scale modelers to demonstrate their attention to detail as has never before been possible with an "off the shelf" product.
Flitemetal puts "craft" back into craftsmanship. You can attain stunning, realistic results with greater ease and speed than is required with traditional covering and finishing processes. Surface prep is the same as if you were to paint a scale model but with results only possible with "The 100% accurate scale covering system".
First timers report Flitemetal easier to apply than iron-on plastic films, with the big bonus of using the real thing... aluminum!!!
