Re: Wid's Cessna 180
So 'peanut' size. Isn't that 12" ws. I have been told that a prop of 30 to 40% of ws is desirable. I am leaning more to 30 % . The bigger that number the more torque effect you are going to have on you plane. It looks like you have a 6" prop on this little thing, and in my limited experience I would say that that is too much for these little wings to handle.

Re: Wid's Cessna 180
Hi Mitch great advice as always.
I'm no expert at Peanuts that is for sure. I do have the book Peanut Power by Bill Hannan. Peanuts started out at 12 wing span but is now 13 inch maxium wing span.
I don't know if this makes a differnce or not but I have been using Semi Scale kits and not Scale kits. This may look kind of funny but I have some video of a 900 Series Bird Dog reduced to a Peanut sized model. I used three differnt sized propellers. A 7 inch, 6 inch and a 5 inch propeller were used in this experiment. This is no way meant to be conclusive. It's just a video i made. http://youtu.be/AX-E4HWCPyI.

That's classic how it got back up and took off on it's own.

Re: Wid's Cessna 180
I decided that i needed more practise before i started the P 38. I decided to start a "Supreme Flyer's" Steve Patti Company "Focke-Wulf 190 kit number 202. I downloaded the plans from the Outerzone website. I have a complet kit in mint condition of the Hawker Typhoon. I will be using several items i purchased from Guillow's. For example the 1/16 inch squar stringers. decals, wheels, propeller shaft, thrust button and Don Ross Book. So I hope it's ok to post the build here.

The little 190 will be interesting. I like the 18" Keil Kraft version also. If you need any lightweight canopies let me know. I have small molds where the canopy could easily be trimmed to fit a slightly small version than they're made for.

Well this kit is too old of course to have come with any plastic parts. The intructions say " Use Celluliod to simulate a canopy. I think Celluliod is old camera film? That's the only problem i have with old kits is no canopy.Bill Gaylord wrote:The little 190 will be interesting. If you need any lightweight canopies let me know..

It's plastic. http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/top ... /celluloidWIDDOG wrote: I think Celluliod is old camera film? That's the only problem i have with old kits is no canopy.
Some you can use thin plastic sheet like the window of a cake box and some canopies you can cut from plastic bottles. The new water bottles are made from very thin plastic.

Re: Wid's 180 and FW 190
190 canopies fold up well from a flat pattern that looks kinda like a Christmas tree with a bucket under it. The only kicker is not making a 100% hard fold line along the main canopy section that would be formed around something like a small rod, while the front windscreen panes are formed with a hard fold line.

I think the celluloid they are referring to is the clear wrapper around the cigarette packs. I seem to remember that some kit specified that type of clear material. I remember asking my Dad for the wrapper from his 'Chesterfields'. But Dad quit smoking a long time ago.

I know I've seen canopies made by Sig or someone for scrtchbuilds. If you cant improvise a vacuum forming device; finding something as close to the size the canopy you need from a newer kit would be My plan.

Re: Wid's 180 and FW 190
I finished the Peanut FW 190 this morning. I have no worries about posting here. Becuase, I used Guillows asscesories to build the kit. I would like to see Guillow's make a Peanut Series. I was able to "Scratch Build" this kit ok: Execpt for the Canopy. I used clear tape to make a canopy. Anyway with A2Z no longer offering their Peanut kits. It would seem to me that the demand for Peanuts would increase as well. I admit that Guillow's knows a heck of lot more about the model airplane bussness than i do.
