First Guillows kit you ever built

My first kit was the build-by-numbers Super Cub when I was 12 (in the '70's) and it was successful. I also built the Flyboy and Cloud Buster back then and they were both amazing flyers. I also built some Comet kits back then.

I just recently returned and built the 500 series Avenger and FW190, and the 900 series Bird Dog (another very good flyer!). I also have the Chipmunk and T-28 on deck as well as the Cherokee 140.

mine was the 24" cessna 150 way back when almost had it finished when I smashed it by accident!.....then the birddog 900 series mustang got a 500 series p-40 on the board now

My first Guillows build was a 50-7 20" Monocoupe Deluxe. This was in 1961. This series of kits was discontinued or close to being discontinued at that time. The model went together well and flew OK.

My first Guillow kit was the Bristol Bullet (ww-7). My mother let me pick it out but she bought it and a Folker DIIV (ww-4) for my brother. This was in the summer of 1964. As I recall, it was enourmous fun, and I was happy with the finished model, although it was not very well done (we were totally clueless). I believe it broke while we tried to fly it. My brother was a year older and a much better craftsman, but I believe his met the same fate.

Eventually, I hope to get my hands on the plans for the Bristol Bullet again and see if I could do a better job now.

These plans are available from the AMA for $8 + s/h.
I ordered a few sets of plans to try out the service. One week after I dropped my order form into the mail a mailing tube full of plans arrived for me.

My first Guillows kit was the Catalina and what a daunting challenge it was too. Took two years to build mainly due to two diasters that befell it during construction. First occasion I went on holiday and left the cat basket near (but not on) my work bench. Returned to find the cat had got extremly bored and had decided to "attack" the half finished Catalina. it was completely shredded and I had to start again. 6 months later a heavy plastic chillibin idiotically placed on a shelf above the model (by me) was dislodged (by me) and dropped squarely on the now 3/4 finished Catalina. 6 months later I finished repairing it and immediatley took it to a friend and begged him to take it off my hands - which he did.

Hi everyone!

My name is Trevor and I'm new here. My wife and I own a hobby shop in High River, Alberta called Monster Hobbies.

We've been in business for 5 years and I just hooked up with a new hobby wholesaller that has Guillow's kits and I'm really excited because I couldn't get them before. (I like to deal locally.)

Anyway, I was doing some research on some real airplanes and came across You-tube video's and web sites devoted to Guillow's kits and how to electrify the Guillow's kits for RC.

My Dad and I built a lot of Guillow's kits in the earily 1980's and he still has most of them in his house. They were the older WW1 series kits from that era.

The first one I had was the Fokker DVIII top wing monoplane and it is still one of the best flyers. It wasn't the large kit, but the smaller one, simular to the present scale in the current 500 series.

We also had the Fokker DVII, The S.E.5a, Spitfire and we built a Fokker DR.1 Triplane using the wings from the D7 and the fuselage from the D8. It actually had a solid balsa rudder and nose. The model ended up being perfectly ballanced and was one of our best flyers!

I'd be interested in the plans for those old WW1 planes if anyone has them. I might try building the Fokker D6 biplane from the Fokker D8 kit.

Guillows has a page you can go to from this forum where they sell just the plans and such seperatly. Its cheaper if you dont mind cutting your own wood.

I see that they have the current parts listed, but I want to find some stuff that's out of production from 15+ years ago, like the Fokker E. III, for example.

Can you please post a link for the older instructions, if you have it?

Since I haven't posted in it, I thought I'd bring this one back to the front.

My first Guillow's Guillow was a Javelin I built about 15-20 years ago. Did alright in glide tests until it hit something solid and broke the fuselage.

If you count the now Guillow's, formerly Comet kits, I built a Cadet in 1968 or '69.
