Scigs,

Does this mean you've also changed what you use to put on tissue? Are you going to keep using diluted Elmers or will you now dilute the Titebond glue? Just wondering.

I see no reason not to use the Titebond, should work just fine.

Elmers

Post by rayd »

No email re "New Stonger Formula," so I called Elmers and found way to someone supposedly familiar with Glue All. My impression was "New Stonger Formula" should be equal or better than previous formula. The fellow seemed pressed for time to go into detail, but did say perhaps a bad batch might have been involved, or faulty storage somewhere along distribution line. He said they have not had complaints. I said they may regarding balsa models with tissue covering. He didn't seem particularly concerned, and suggested glue should be ok, if stored properly and not part of a bad batch.

In recently going to big box craft store, I could not find Titebond, other items. Perhaps at different locations and maybe under different names!? Before writing off readily available Elmer's for "stick models," would like to inquire if many of you experiencing problems with Elmer's "New Stonger Formula." Oh, rep said it should be used sparingly. (This is different how we use moreso with tissure covering.) I am a bit confused at this point. I was not that satisfied with hurried phone chat, but maybe storage a factor somewhere, and bad batches can happen. Maybe I'll give 'em benefit of the doubt, just for now, and try new Elmers. Dunno if I've helped or confused you. If you like what you're using, stay with it, if any feedback/comments re Elmers, let's hear it.

Titebond Translucent Wood Glue

Post by latitude »

Hello scigs30,
I'm out of Elmer's old formula Glue-All and I can't find Titebonds new glue. I thought I read somewhere were you picked yours up at a Loew's. The Loew's in my area know nothing about it. If you could locate the reorder number printed on the label and pass that along that may help the retailers order it for me. Sure would appreciate it.

Did you by chance read any of this thread before posting?

The bottles could be given away for free, but if of the new formula then they are reportedly no good.

The point is SCHOOL GLUE. This type is much much different from the glue all type.

the school glue does not work well for balsa models. I used it on my Dauntless about 5 years back, and it held the parts together alright, but when I went to cover the plane with a 50/50 mixture of glue and water, the frames began to fall apart because the school glue is completely water soluble. So I had to re-glue all the joints with regular white glue. My advice is to steer clear of the school glue.

I see, I didn't realize there was a different kind called "school glue" as I'm used to "Elmer's Glue-All" being called by many names including that one.

As Arlo has confirmed, it is intended for gluing papers together so they can be proudly shown on the refrigerator.

My manager just got back from her 8 week sabbatical in China. Upon her return she gave us a few treats including mooncakes that had "Made in USA" prominently labeled on the box.
