F4U-4 Corsair Cockpit cover installation

Post by Gene7 »

I'm building the subject model. The plans indicate a two-piece cockpit canopy but the kit contains only a single plastic canopy in the closed position. It doesn't seem quite right that the canopy should be separated, but maybe so. Also, it would appear that the front of the caanopy (windshield) has to be contoured to fit the fuselage profile. Is that right? Help will be appreciated.

The cockpit is to be cut apart to the right sections. You needs to scan those plans closely. There is decent detail regarding how it is to be cut apart. You should only cut it apart of you are building it so the canopy slides back to open. Check the fully functional plans and it will tell you about the necessary mods.

You may get an idea of what it lookImages like when it's made as an opening cockpit.
