should i get one of these to sand my Guillows Build-N-Fly Goldwing #4101?

I HAVE A COUPLE. FINE AND COARSE GRITS. THEY WORK GREAT.

I have 3 different ones, they are well worth it. Had it for quite a few years now.

But also a piece of flat pine works just as well.

I actually even use paint sticks that I glued some sand paper onto, with different grits. I use round dowels also with sandpaper glued on, small sq. hardwood for squares, smaller pipes, etc............
I use 3m spray glue to attach the sandpaper.

Whatever you can make work..............

i think this lightweight sander would
be good for the balsa wood because
with a solid wood sanding block there
would be a tendency to sand too much
too quickly.
plus they showed a picture of someone
using this on a balsa plane wing:)

If you used a heavy , large wood block...yes could would easily over sand. Youstill need to be careful with the bar, the paper cuts quite fast, but it does work very well.

Oh, and about the picture you mentioned: If you saw a guy holding to his face, would it make you think it works great for sanding down that last bit of stubble? (just razing you)

I know the picture, just gives you ideas of one of its many uses.

just a few more questions before i part with $4.99
how many times can you change sheets of their sandpaper
before it needs to be cleaned off?
what do you clean off accumulated stickem off with?

The paper will last quite a while as long as your sanding off too much CA glues with it. I changed mine only 3 times last year and I did quite a bit of sanding. You can always give it a brushing to get the grit out of the pores, but I never bothered.

The glue will not bother you until about the third changing.

The excessive leftover glue can be cleaned off with some acetone or lacquer thinner. Sometimes I even take another piece of sandpaper and use that as well to clean off the sanding bar.

Don't forget to buy a spare rolls of paper, comes in 4 grits that I know of. I use 150 and 220 grit.

One thing you will notice with the sandpaper that it made for it. It is about 1/8" wider then the bar, and that is fine. Align the edge up along one side so that it is flush, and then on the other side fold the paper over the edge thereby creating a thin sanding surface.
The first side allows you to get up along side in a corner tight and only sand the lower portion, whereas the other side with the folded over lip allows you to sand both the side and the bottom at the same time if needed. Or get the edge into a small slot to sand, like stringer notch.

in the meantime i might try gluing
sandpaper from kit to piece of balsa in kit they
say to use for sanding block.
i have some 3M contact cement around here somewhere.
