That's it on the nose. It hasn't been sanded to shape yet... I'm even making a motor for this one...

Just hand-plane those doughnut rings to a curved cowling?

By the way, I see your stringer stock is pine sticks or is it just a close up of the stringers that come in a kit?

stringers are ripped 1/4" plywood, aprox 5/16" wide... Any narrower and the lamination begins to come apart.

I used my bench snader (6" circular, and 4" belt) to first bevel the nose to 30 degrees, than rough it out the rest of the way with the belt. Then finish sand with a mouse sander...( for smoothing out rodents)

The prime and paint with latex that self levels and smooths out most imperfections.

I was going to mess with him, telling him to put them in the air.

Nice pair Bill. You gotta have both of them together to complete the collection. I have both of them too, but as little guys. The Camel is a fine flyer. I won't call my DR1 a fine flyer but it does fly. I understand that they can be however. I know, it's a different story to put them in the air at your scale.

One of my neighbors came up while we were shooting photos, and asked if the camel would fly... I told him she was just a tad heavy for that... He asked what would it take to get her in the air, and I told him that the first step would be to buy a kit from Hangar 9 or Top Flite or Balsa USA, and start all over again...
