Post by grump »

can you use nitrate clear on the raw balsa wood several times and will the glue sill stick when you glue the tissue on?

David is correct, the glue will stick to nitrate dope. But why would you go to the trouble of doping the framework and then use glue to stick the tissue? A better solution is to use thinned nitrate dope as the adhesive. Or as I have done, just use dope thinner as the adhesive, this is applied through the tissue while holding it in place. Theory here is the thinner will soften the dope on the framework and stick the tissue. Then you can use a 50/50 dope/thinner mix to seal the tissue. Works for me...
You can do it if you have patience!

The only things that have really changed are the finishing compounds & chemical. (dope, paint). And where you can buy it.

The thing that really sucks is the fact that small brick and mortar, mom 'n' pop, hobby shops are closing in record numbers. Now you have to either mail order online, or go to one of the big box hobby shops. Where you're lucky to find a clerk not glued to his/her cell phone, or yammering to another clerk about all the stupid fishing tackle "jewlery" stuck in each others faces.

Building the planes is still the same. :)

You can find a lot of good information by looking through older posts on this forum.
