For all fellow model aviation enthusiasts, I thought you may be interested in a show that is currently airing on PBS stations. It is a 3 part series called, Pioneers In Aviation: The Race to The Moon.
Normally I wouldn't suggest an aviation related TV show on this forum; however, there are so many aspects of this show that would be of interest to balsa airplane modelers that I thought many would appreciate the heads up.
The first hour is airing this week/weekend. Anyone who has built the Guillow's Wright Flier, Spirit of St. Louis, DC-3, or any WW I aircraft would especially be interested to see extensive old movie footage of these aircraft, and their behind the scenes construction, development and history. The first episode also covered the start of William Boeing's, and Donald Douglas's Aircraft Companies. The show touched briefly on Douglas's affinity for building and experimenting with balsa model airplanes. It is definately worth watching.
Part 2 of 3 will be on next week. It is going to deal with the WW II airplanes. You can check your local PBS station for air times.
All the best to everyone for a great weekend.

I try to watch any aircraft programming I can find. I'll try to watch it.
I was just looking at the Guillow's Wright Flyer yesterday at the LHS. I have a Spektrum board stashed away for my next light weight project. Maybe one of these days, as it would be a very interesting project.

Rememeber that show WINGS (where they would feature the entire operational history of 1 Plane. (sometimes 1 pilot) that show was awesome.

I should have taped some of those. I think they have the ME262, as one of the features. Those films are a great way to REALLY get you motivated to build a particular subject. Just a small colorful clip I saw on TV recently, almost talked me into buying the Stearman the next day.joecrouse wrote:Rememeber that show WINGS (where they would feature the entire operational history of 1 Plane. I've managed to acquire a good collection of pilot informational films and older documentary style flics by watching the bargain bins in our local Alco and Pamida stores. Included are the p-47, p-38, p-40, me262, p-39 and a few others I have loaned out right now. They're pilot indoctrination flics showing boost settings, prop settings and other operating procedures that totally hold my attention the whole time watching them. They ranged in cost from $4.99 to $9.99 and worth every penny for the detail shown in them.
