Re: CloudBuster and Flyboy - an evolutionary experience.
The wing damaged in the previous post is almost repaired. Another FlyBoy wing was damaged since that event and is now repaired. Both should be covered and ready to fly by this weekend.
After the incidents causing the damage, some preventative measures were taken to reduce future such events

Yippee, the Fly Boy wings are covered and ready to fly.
A couple of late flights at dusk to check them out. They flew well.

Re: CloudBuster and Flyboy - an evolutionary experience.
In our Guillows 'build by numbers' thread we showed how we installed a removable wing and tail mount on our profile Cessna 185. The mount system uses the same dimensions as the mounting system on the CloudBuster and FlyBoy so it allows the use of these wings on the profile Cessna 185. This combination allows for more utility of the CB and FB wings. This pic shows the FlyBoy wing on the profile CE 185.
And here is one of the newer CloudBuster wings on the CE-185.
Both of the wings fly well with the CE-185 fuselage. One of our next experiments is to modify the Javelin and Lancer wing mounts so they can be mated to the modified CloudBuster/FlyBoy fuselages. This should result in an interesting and large family of flyable combinations:o)

Re: CloudBuster and Flyboy - an evolutionary experience.
Having access to beautiful day for some flying, we took some of the Cloudbuster and Flyboy models for a late afternoon flying session. The session started with the old reliable first modified Cloudbuster.
And as the sun began to recede over the horizon, the final flight was with the Cloudbuster. It is completing its fourth season of active flying.

Also flown were a Flyboy wing attached to a more recent modified CB fuselage.
And another Flyboy wing attached to the 'super CB' fuselage.
Both are fine flyers.

Re: CloudBuster and Flyboy - an evolutionary experience.
Reading the comments re the Comet Meteor, we've bumped up this Cloudbuster/Flyboy thread to share our experiences with the Meteor. We've not built the Meteor, but we've built two Comet Cloudbuster wings(one complete with wing and tail), and one Guillows Flyboy wing. The Comet Meteor and Cloudbuster were nearly identical except the Meteor had a windowed cabin and sub rudder strake. When Guillows reissued the Cloudbuster it was renamed the Flyboy. The first Comet Cloudbuster we built we flew it via swing control and it was a great flyer. Check out earlier pages of this thread. Now we fly the Cloudbuster/Flyboy wings with stick and profile fuselages(easier to build and fly great)
The parts assembled and ready to go flying late this afternoon.
BTW, we've at least one(or two) unbuilt Comet Meteors. We would like to trade them for laser-cut sheets for the wing ribs of the Guillows Flyboy.

Pix for the last flight session.

Sorry, to post them late, forum wouldn't uplaod so had to photobucket them. Bit tedious by dialup

Re: CloudBuster and Flyboy - an evolutionary experience.
This past thursday was a beautiful day for flying and we had the chance to get some good flights with a number of our models. Here is the modified GoldWing with a sheet wood fuselage.
And here with the stick fuselage from the kit.

The great weather was followed by two windy cloudy days capped by rainy morning today. This afternoon when the rain stopped it was overcast and calm. Kinda damp but flyable and we got some good flights with a couple of CloudBuster winged models.

Re: CloudBuster and Flyboy - an evolutionary experience.
A brief update on the CloudBuster and FlyBoy. The CloudBuster is one of our earlier 'swingers' and remains one of our best and most reliable flyers to this day.
Although the mornings are chilly, later in the day it warms up and the sky remains clear with light breezes. Great days for flying. Today we flew a couple of the older 'swingers'.
First a much modified CloudBuster with a FlyBoy wing.
Then our first modified CloudBuster with a new CB wing.
Both flew well until running into an occasional gust, then the model departs from a stable flight pattern. That's when the tether line proves its value, Usually. the flight can be salvaged and model damage is minimized.

Re: CloudBuster and Flyboy - an evolutionary experience.
A while back, we had a little mishap with the modified Gold Wing on a stick fuselage and one of the Fly Boy wings on a long stick fuselage. On the Gold Wing the fuselage broke behind the wing and on the Fly Boy the horizontal tail hit an object and pulled off the mounting platform.
With the help of a little glue and a clamp, the damage is repaired.
Tomorrow, after the glue dries, we'll make a test flight and see if the repairs are successful.

The long stick FlyBoy and modified GoldWing are ready to fly.
The GoldWing is happy with its fuselage repair and flys well.

The long stick FlyBoy is also a happy flier

Re: CloudBuster and Flyboy - an evolutionary experience.
Fall has arrived with some much needed rain over the weekend. Today, it was cloudy and a bit cooler. Just right for some late afternoon flights. Our gear for an impromptu flight in the backyard.
The model is the wing and tail from a Guillows FlyBoy attached to a simple stick fuselage. One of our favorite flyers.
The only other item needed is our trusty collapsible Shakespeare pan fish pole with a twelve foot line. It doesn't get much simpler than this.
The model in back of the FlyBoy is its reflection in the sliding door.
