solid glue joint for rudders
I am currently building a 300 series DHC-2 Beaver. What is the best way to achieve a solid glued joint between the rudder and the top keel? Do I leave the model unpappered along the base of the rudder and add the tissue after gluing the rudder in place or do I make sure the tissue is firmly glued to the top keel and then glue the rudder in place?

I tend to fully tissue along the structure then cut out little squares from the surface or pin prick it to allow the glue to get a grip on he wood beneath

I leave the area where the rudder is going to be unsealed. Meaning I don't put any dope in that spot. Then I use CA glue (super glue) the glue will soak right thru the paper and get into the pores of the balsa. Therefore making a good glue joint.

I make sure there is NO paper on the bottom (contact area) of the rudder. I ligthly sand the fuselage at the contact area (everything has 1 coat of dope at this point) and I presume the glue penetrates the paper to make the bond.
HOWEVER... I like the idea of "pin prick" the fuselage at the contact point, and will do that in the future.
That's why I like to read these posts!

Just thinking out loud here..
Using a strip of tissue on both sides of the joint like a fillet might add some strength. I have this issue coming up on my javelin..
