Inexpensive Butyrate Dope/Thinner

Post by RAYD7024 »

I found an inexpensive source for Butyrate Dope and thinner. The supplier is www.aircraftspruce.com. The manufacturer is Randolph. The dope goes for $15.60 per quart and thinner goes for $11.90 per quart. Has anyone used these products on silkspan?

I buy pure acetone from Home Depot for about 12 bucks a gallon for thinner...

So acetone is perfectly good for cleanup? I bought official sig thinner, and would like to keep it for mixing with butyrate dope.

I use SIG Nitrate Dope and I use SIG Nitrate retarder... It thins the dope and is designed to allow the dope to dry more slowly (better). I am happy with the results... The Hobby Shop I used to buy it is another store OUT of business :( , so I think I will have to order more from SIG when I need it. Mitch

One good way to find inexpensive dope is to go back in time, although I realize that is not quite possible.
I received an old bottle of Testors dope from a WWII veteran, and noticed the 69 cent price on the label. The contents are still liquid.
