Anything To Do With 500 Series Kits.

I like to build, fly and read about anything to do with 500 series kits. Before they had the Internet or even VCR’s, as a kid I used to build and throw/fly them. I’m not quite “There” yet but with the help of the Internet I have gotten much better with 500 series kits.

I have seen some really awesome 500 series kits on this forum. Hopefully I can get some repostings of them on this Thread.

This is a picture of my present build. It’s the 500 Series Stuka kit. Not that there is really anything interesting going on here. It’s just that I wanted to say that I have read a lot of great “Build” threads on this forum. One expert model builder talked about building the kit “Straight”. I have kept that thought while building this kit. The interesting thing is this model will probably turn out to be my best looking model I ever built.

I have built the 500 series Stuka, and it turned out O.K.,have to learn how to add pictures !There is no photo resizer on this site. I have also built the Spitfire, that was the first plane i built after a 35 year break from modelplanes.I now have collected all of the 500 series kits except one and look forward to building them all. I bought another Spitfire to build to fly as I made the first to heavy to fly under rubber power.

That Nakajima A6m2-N Rufe !!!!! WOW!!!!!! Super Cool !!!!!! Thanks for posting that picture! That is my favorite kit. I built it as a Zero, of course I’m no where near your model level. It does help my model building to see pics from top notch model builders.

Guillow’s 500 Series Stuka Landing Gear. (3.6 g ) Where I hope to save weight is with the balancing clay. I’ll keep you posted.

Stuka was never built to fly at least on rubber power anyway, Built it at about the time I found this forum! Built it way to heavyfor rubber powered flight! May try to build one to fly on free flight rubber, since electric radio control is out of my price range at this time. I was trying to build the Stuka after one used on the Eastern front as a tank buster with two 50 mm cannons one under each wing, I have not built and added cannons , but the color is right (I think)for that version of Stuka. I had a plastic model of that version of the Stuka as a kid!

This is my outlook on the whole thing. I fly Mini RC Helicopters in the basement when the weather is bad and Rubber Powered 500 Series outside when the weather is nice.

I was wondering about the color scheme I wanted to use on my Stuka. I found this picture and decided to use it’s color scheme. One color unpainted green tissue paper should do it. Oh yea some yellow paint on the plastic cowling.

For you color scheme, you can use a blue or grey for bottom and green for top... Paint cowl yellow and rudder and wingtips can be yellow paper...

Something like this... Bf 109 400 series not 500

PS That yellow paper really POPS out, I think it would set your plane apart!

Thanks much those Stukas are awesome! They look great! I am still working on my skills but really I need to work on my model making appearance. Thanks for the pics! BTW my models are getting better with each build.

Nice Stuka! Really like the panel lines. That is something I need to learn how to do.I'm affraid to do much with them one slip of the pen and you will have the look of my Spitefire. The Stuka I did, tape was tried, and does not look right because it is to wide for this size of model.I will have to just get better at panel lines with a pen. I really like all the different color schemes that this plane has had, it is my favorite WW2 plane. I used to have a book of the JU87 that had alot of the known color schemes and unforunately I lost it over 20 years ago, I can't remeber if the Japanese variation was in the book or not it is very interesting and not a common one. I have seen this plane before on kittyfritters post it looks good.Widdog the one you have picked out is a good one,I like it and think like Mitch, that the yellow does make it look good! I have a lot of room to grow in the scale model markings, paint, pannel lines and even better placement of exhaust and other detail additions to have a more realistic looking model. Guess I will just have to keep building them untill I think I have something that only I can tell has flaws!

Thanks, that brings back memories! Shows the tank buster version that I built as 1/48 scale (I think) plastic model kit in the mid 1970's .
