Re: Guillows sheetwood flying models - the Zip nocals.
Our next sheetwood swinger will be a P-40. The Guillows shelf model kit will be the basis for this model. To see more about the Guillows shelf models go to the bottom of the page at. http://balsamodels.com/phpBB/viewtopic. ... 6&start=75 and then to the top of the next page there.
First the shelf kit plan with with main parts were scanned to one page.
This was printed to cardstock and cut up for patterns, which were then used to draw up this plan.

The cardstock patterns used to sketch the plan were used to cut the parts of the P-40. When the cardstock pattern sheet was printed it was sized to build a model of about inches wingspan.
The parts are glued up and some shaping is sanded in and control surfaces inked in with ballpoint.

Thank you, Scott.
A little more sanding and it will be ready for a test hop.

Thank you John and Scott for your comments. The P-40 is ready for a test flight. The balsa plug in the nose will be glued and blended into the nose after the nose weight is finalized. So far 2 lead bbs are in use.

Test flight went OK. The model flys well for a little 6 inch wingspan. Please excuse the fuzzy pix.

Your P-40 looks like a good flyer.

Thanks, Scott. It flies OK, kinda fast due to its high wing loading and tiny size. Construction is almost finished. Need to ink in a canopy.

Re: Guillows sheetwood flying models - the Zip nocals.
Once again, thanks for your comment, Scott.
A few years ago, Terry Lyttle and I were discussing the flying of Guillows "DC shelf models" on another forum.
Pretty neat, I would say. Never did learn from Terry of how the model flew.

His model was based on this mode plan. And the finished model looked like this."Yeah I was into jets, so I likely built a SabreDog; I do remember the F80, though. We used to build and whip-fly all those small models including the Guilows "shelf models". Once fall set in, we would gather them up, fit the biggest firecracker we could into it... well, you get the picture.
I was kinda taken by the Guillows kits, all-sheet, quite small (6-8" span), and I used the same construction (minus the paper bottom) to build a sloper. Not flown yet.
Thanks, Simpleflyer, it is/was just an experiment; we'll see what it does in the air. It is 36" span (a bit small), all-sheet, Jedelsky wing. "

BTW, happy 4th of July to all of the group members and to all of us veterans who for almost 250 years have struggled to keep America the land of the free.
