Re: Cessna 170 Laser Cut Kit Build ( # 302 LC )
Added the side windows and windshield, using Formula 560 Canopy Glue. Pretty good stuff ... dries clear and sticks real good.
Thought it would be kinda neat to simulate a "dashboard", so I sketched the windshield outline ( prior to gluing it down ) and just colored it in with a black "sharpie".
Also added some additional 3/32 cabin bracing from left over balsa in the kit ( mainly for strength ) ... for that inevitable wing strike during a "hard landing".

Amazing how a couple of decals can make such a nice improvement in the looks.
( The camera angle for the RIGHT SIDE view wasn't good. Wrinkles in the covering aren't really there ... looks more like the left side. )

I'd say nice job on your build again since your work seems amazing to me but Bill Gaylord may accuse you of only posting your build progress to try to receive a lot of "praises and thank you's"

Hey Nice model... looking at that winder you bought. I don't like that for a couple of reasons. First, you will not "FEEL" the tension. Secondly, you can not "STRECH" wind the motor.
Here are my suggestions. If you use it for "convenience" I would ONLY use it for test flights and trim flights. Once you get these models flying you will need 2 things.
1. A good winder
2. A friend to hold the model
If you do not have a friend, then get No.3
3. A stooge.
I have a stooge.
1: A Winder

2. A Friend

3. A Stooge

I think you will be okay for trim flights... As for winding... DO NOT GET CLOSE to maximum. Use the chart if you do not have it I will provide info... Also lube you rubber band.
Do you have Don Ross' Book?
Mitch... by the way ... Nice model... Silver paper is difficult to work with...

Really nice build, Spiceman.
I think I might go to the hobby shop today and look for the Cessna 170 model.

This is what I read and was planning on responding to, before coming across some other unexpected stuff. We'll just keep it on-topic.
I may use a few tiny CA tack spots to hold the windshield in place, but Pacer for the rest. I don't know what I would have done without in for the American Gyro build, as it had windows inserted into the frames and the Pacer was applied with a knife tip. I would have made a mess with CA.
Pacer 560 is good stuff, and I finally started using it, after realizing that a lack of patience and using fast curing CA for clear windshields isn't worth it.SpiceMan wrote:Added the side windows and windshield, using Formula 560 Canopy Glue. Pretty good stuff ... dries clear and sticks real good.

Bill spewed forth:I imagine since you're leaving I guess you're not worried about it. You seem to be the one who got upset over not getting ONLY praises and thank you's,
I said I was not looking for "praises or thank yous or good jobs" what is your issue with me, plus I never said I'm leaving...Are you wanting me to leave? What the hell is it with you?
Plus I never called anyone "off topic posters" so why a need to apologize, Im only said i wondered how that thread went so off topic in the way "walmart folks" were being bashed by some people and there are a lot of good people who shop there sio I thought it a bit underhanded.

I use CA for tacking the windows in place and then wick aliphatic into the gap it works quite well and you can clean up any messes on the plastic quite easily. I've heard good stuff about this canopy glue so might give it a go....
Please let's try and keep this to the Aeroplanes rather than ruining spicemans thread, It's simply spoiling it.

Formula 560 Canopy Glue.
Ive been using CA to glue windsheilds and becomes very messy
Another reason I joined the forum was for hints/tips and help like this
PS..What is wick aliphatic ?

I mean that Aliphatic resin is drawn by capillary action into the joint. Tiny "tacks" of CA are all I use, I find it tends to cloud the plastic if you go overboard with it.
