The prop blades were carved from 1/4" stock.

Reminds me of when someone asked a man who had sculpted a horse out of stone, 'how he did it'.

Thanks for the answer about the wheels Dave. I was thinking of using the small plastic wheels from the 500 series but think they will be too fat for the wheel pants. I will see if my LHS has some wheels in this small size! My concern is also to save weight. Although the wheels don't seem heavy... everything adds up! I hope to have mine flying before the end of the month! Also I was informed of a model show at the Boeing Museum of Flight, and hope to take ONE flying model to the show!

i am doing the Edge now. using your thread as a guide. thanks. even with your warning about the side formers breaking, and opening the slots a bit on side keel, a couple of them still broke. due to the lighter construction i think. i would have to have constucted built up formers to eliminate the problem, but as i am going to fill it in with 3/32" sheet, it'll turn out fine, but if i were planning on flying rubber power i think i would've made built up crossgrain side formers. thanks for posting that build. what kind of paint do you use? i am having trouble when i apply decals that they dont stick. i cant get colored dope anywhere.

Hey Guys,

Just got home and here are a few pics of my skeleton:

The Pilot is from the Stearman kit. I will purchase a few more pilots from the parts dept. Then make one for the Edge with a new helmet.
I lowered his seat down 1/8 inch so he does not bump his head.


I built mine with ALL kit wood but made a few changes.


I. Remove Excess wood


2. ADD MORE dihedral than they specify for a flying model


3. Move the rear peg forward 1 bay. I did not drill the hole for the peg yet.

I have a few more pictures and plan to finish the model before the end of the month. I plan to make a 3 blade prop and spinner for display, and use the kit prop and remove the test pilot for FF!

i eould be grateful to see your posting on finishing. that is an area i am trying to improve at. i have been experimenting with spray paints and clearcots, but have not acieved satisfactory results yet.i am a very good mechanic, but when it comes to fit

i would like to see your posting on finishing. i have been experimenting with spray paint and clearcoats, but cant seem to get a satisfactory combination yet. im a very good mechanic, but fit & finish has never been my strongpoint. we have body shop guys for that. not that i'm not capable, but they're two different fields, and each takes half a lifetime to learn. but anyway i would be grateful to see how to apply yor finishing. it looks excellent.
