I'm starting a new build. I thought I'd go ahead and post it. I'll be building by the instruction sheet. I will substitute Kit Wood with Contest Balsa.
I have that same kit, I havent staarted yet, looking at the plans the only thing I plan to change is adding dihedral to the wing, I look forward to following your build
I don't mean to tell you what to do...BUT... the G challenge just started for 2014, and kit 601 is one of the entries. Just a suggestion. You could build the model with kit wood for the contest. Buy the few plastic parts needed for the build and you could also build it from contest balsa.
That way you will:
1. Improve you skills in the build.
2. See the difference between, Kit wood and Contest wood.
3. Have fun in the contest.
The G Challenge sounds kind of interesting. I have some questions about the wood. Must kit wood be used and no wood substitution allowed? I am going to build my kit with 1/20 inch thick wood and not use any 1/16 inch thick wood. I have started already with the 1/20 inch thick wood.
Wow, the challenge has already started? I thought I might try it this year, so I'll join the group too.
Widdog, as far as I know, in the g-challenge, only kit wood can be used, but it can be lightened by any method of preference. I don't know about any change in rules, but you can check out previous years' contest rules.
Yes the challenge started. Howard posted the info on the yahoo group.
Lessons from Mitch...
1. Don't wait until the last week to join Yahoo. It may take a day or two to be approved for the group. (This was the first time I used yahoo)
2. Don't wait until the last day to fly your plane... Gee, It might be raining in Seattle on Oct. 31st.
I plan to build the Fairchild 24... It has a high wing and 25 inch ws. I do not have the kit yet so I do not know what the wing area is. There are almost 300 members in the yahoo group, but only a few participated last year in the challenge. I hope we see more this year.
Same basic rules, use kit wood, but you can make improvements to nose and motor and such. Rubber Power ONLY. I am sure Howard will post the challenge soon! Hope to see more of you over there!
Thanks for the great info about the G challenge. I am going to go ahead and order the complete kit and enter the G Challenge. I am still going to go ahead and finish this kit. I am very impressed with this Semi-scale model. I would definitely recommend it to a beginner modeler.
