Post by davidchoate »

in an E-letter I get from M.A.N. There seems to be a new aluminum finishing material by Topflite I bilieve : made from.00018 thick alum with adhesive backing. the article showed some very impressive results. not liki whon you use aluminum paint that just never looks convincing.Image AH! I got The wrong pic. Hold on.

I respectfully disagree. I think it looks like a METAL model.

yeah, its some kind of aluminum Coverite or similar product, and the guy applied it in sections to replicate panels. I thought it looked nice, but i'm sure its pricey.

My hubby hot something like ( I think) that stuff you was talking about. It's like goldleaf but silver. It's this very very thin sheets of aluminum that you use a brush to kinda tap it on. It's pretty neat. He got it for his plastic models to cover bumperd and such.:-) he hasn't used it yet :-) If that guy covered that plane with it I am sure it is expensive to buy it. That aluminum leaf stuff isn't cheap

No. different stuff. He's talkin about gold laf, but silver. you brush it on, and its so thin the riveys and panel lines show through. This stuff is a covering material like you would use tissue for, only its a heat stick;shrink material. kinda what Bill Gaylord used on his Beaver.

Aluminized mylar will simulate a highly polished aluminum surface. I used it on my Guillow #302 Cessna 170 models. It's much stronger and lighter than Esaki Jap tissue (2.6 grams per square metre for the 2 micrometre thickness aluminized mylar). I posted photos in the following thread:
