G Challenge Question.

Post by davidchoate »

I'm about done my Lancer. I deviated only one thing from the plan. I made a one piece landing gear. I just couldnt do the straight pin in 1/20th balsa to hold the wheels on. But i want to know if I have to use the ridiculouse Red plastic wheels thst are in the kit? I got these Very nice white spoked DuBro wheels, and I think I saw them on Mitch's plane, but don't know if it was entered on Yahoo. Does anyone know? And is 37 grams an ok weight for this thing?

The weight difference is nominal.

The intention was to use the plastic parts from the kit, but I don't think anyone will object to these wheels. They are not lighter than the originals and in some past Challenges, people lightened the original wheels, turning them into spoked wheels by careful working with a Dremel tool.

37 grams is flyable, but actually a bit heavy for this model. In my experience, it usually weighs 28 to 30 grams when built, and I'm not known for building light.
