Silkspan Covering and Nitrate Dope?

Post by oneilldm »

I'm working on the 1/20th scale Display model of the 1903 Wright Flyer. I covered it with silkspan because I felt the tissue was too delicate. I've seen 50/50 nitrate dope recommended as a sealer... but I'm having trouble finding a place to by it. I'd really like the skin to have a fabric look.Any advice?

Thanks

SIG MFG.Co.Inc has it as well as butyrate dope. However butyrate dope shrinks tight as a drum, they also sell lite-coat its also a butyrate dope but doesn't shrink as much. SIG also sells nitrate dope and thinner. The lite-coat dope also comes in colors. Hope this helps.

Another option is to spray with Top Flite, LustreKote. I am switching to this as an alternative to Dope. You should be able to find it at a hobby store that sells RC planes and supplies. A 10 oz can costs about 8 dollars and should be enough to cover 4 planes.
