Wid's Cessna 150 FF
I ordered a Guillow's Kit 309 Cessna 150 Laser Cut this evening. When it arrives I will build it for rubber powered FF. This will be my first model with a wing span over 18 inches.
This youtube video motivated me to order the kit. http://youtu.be/Toh845PYRhw.

Re: Wid's Cessna 150 FF
I have heard a lot of good things about the Guillow's Laser Cut kit wood. I was wondering if I built mine with kit wood would it be light enough to fly well? What I'm basing this question on is in the above video it show's the model being built. I looked closely at the video and I could see parts numbers and tell that the model was being built with kit wood.

Re: Wid's Cessna 150 FF
From the picture of the box it appears to be the die-cut version. That's the old box art. But the formers looked to be laser cut. The notches in the formers look very precise. I'm rather amazed at how well that model flew. Much better than I ever got the Guillow 150 to fly.
I think your Laser Cut model will do o.k. I would still try to reduce the weight as best I could without altering the overall appearance of the model.
Also, keep in mind how big of a rubber motor that guy had in his model.
Please post a build thread of your 150.

Not surprised to see that result. As an r/c conversion, it has to be one of the easiest flying/stable models I've ever flown. Should be a good one for ff.

Re: Wid's Cessna 150 FF
I love the 300 kits. They are very good Scale models, but I cant see one flying well on rubber. They are very sturdy and use mostly 3/32" wood. They are fine candidates for RC, or powered FF. I recently found out they make ESC's for control line planes which require no receiver. This is the best option to ff other than the cox glow engines on the plan.

David do you think I could get away with using 1/16 inch thick wood for the formers?

I wouldn't see why not, but in general you can easily find 3/32" that is as light as the average 1/16" that comes in kits. Makes it easier than trying to recalculate part dimensions for parts where the thickness is a concern.

Re: Wid's Cessna 150 FF
I was able to start building on my Cessna today. I am very happy with the Laser Cut kit wood.
A= 8.5 lb/ft
B= 9.5
C= 7.8
D= 8.7
This kit has really turned me around as far as kit wood goes. I have to admit that this is a really nice kit.

Well I got the landing gear placed on the model. I'm not really that good with landing gear. I'm glad that it is on a functioning alright. Like I said before very nice kit.

That's some nice wood in that kit.
I hate to say it but, your B2 Former is upside down.

Looks nice. Whats your weight?
And as I learned. there is a much better kind of rubber called FAI. You gotta order it. I am not a FF expert, but have come a long way from the advice of guys like Mitch. In addition to the Fai rubber; I have found that using props made by Peck polymer will also help.
