The dihedral is built into the wing on this design. I guess I would call it more a Sport Scale. I was able to do some backyard glides; it did well. I will try and fly it tomorrow.

I think I have the propeller / motor combination. 6 inch PP... 1/8 rubber x two loops or 4 strands. BTW the windshield and accessories are from Guillow's.

Often it's assumed that a plane built from contest balsa will be more fragile than one made from denser wood. That is only true when all other things are equal. If you increase wood sizes enough to compensate, the model will still be lighter, stronger, stiffer and more warp resistant. Since a lighter model absorbs less energy in a crash, it will also be more crash resistant. Many designs have parts of the structure that are unnecessarily strong, so in some situations just switching to contest balsa by itself puts you ahead of the game.

I have had no problems with light or contest wood as far as strength. As Bill said you can use thicker wood, and add gussetts and xtra structure and still weigh same or less than heavy kit wood. I recently did a Guillows supercub that I lightenened, and yes, it not only is liht, but the tissue and Elmers dope is all that is holding it together. I used scrap kit wood. I built a larger plane from plans using contest wood from Midwest. And it weighs not much more than My wafer thin Cub.

One time I weighted out 1 gram of contest Balsa wood on my scale. It turned out to be a lot of wood.
