shellac for sealing frame

Post by elkhart »

Has anyone tried spray on shellac for sealing the frame? I have a can of Bull's Eye shellac sitting here and I'm wondering if it will work. I'm using white glue for adhesive and dope.

Don't do it. I did that once years ago on a Comet Super Star series Chief Cherokee. It put so much weight on the model. It was the biggest regret ever. If you are not going to fly it and it is only to be for display it might be o.k.

Besides weight, also be aware that water destroys shellac.

Good to know! I'll go with 50/50 glue.

I've used iaquer spray. just to test it. Its ok. seals the wood well. I kept it to a fone mist. No heavy coats. I prefer Dope thinned, and sanding sealer in some applications.
