I have the model all wired up and soldered. Even though I'm doubting weather or not it will fly... I will still test fly it today.

Flight test did not go so well. My motors not producing enough thrust. I decided to scrap this project. I want to start work on converting a Guillow's 500 kit to RC.

This is not Rocket Science but a ESTES rocket motor won't hurt. It's not fun to have a project FAIL. I'm trying to stay positive. I already have a new project in mind. I'm going to try and convert a Guillow's 500 series kit to RC.

The first thing I would try, assuming the prop is correctly matched to the motor, would be to increase the voltage. To maximize thrust-to-weight ratio, operate the motor at the highest voltage that does not cause overheating.

This is my second prototype C130. The first prototype had one tractor prop and was rubber powered. I think the first prototype looked better, flew and was fun to build. Unfortunately the first prototype did not make it through my last move. I am seriously thinking about scraping the second and just redoing the first.

I wouldn't call it a failed "project" at all WIDDOG, just a prototype. It was actually a search on scratch builds that brought me to this forum THROUGH this thread of yours. Keep your chin up! Seeing something of this magnitude come together from a hobbyists hands and not through a company with an R&D department is impressive to say the least. I'm sure with the knowledge of aviation you seem to have you'll get this thing perfect soon enough.

Thanks much TimsCustoms1982 for posting. I have had some success especially with the 900 series kits. However I have also had models that just seemed to not want to fly no matter what. I learned that in this hobby you have to take the good with the bad. I really like this forum. This forum has the best modelers/builders. Also is kept very up to date. I didn't have much experience with RC builds before this project. Your right I really did learn a lot from this build.

In my gut I really feel that my first prototype was a much better than the second prototype. I'm going to take a break from the C 130 and try to convert a 500 series kit into a
4 ch RC. In the interest in keeping the big topic board moving I will post the build. I will come back to this post and try to rebuild a C130 like the first prototype soon.

Which 500 series are you thinking about? I would go for something with a big, roomy fuselage like the Hellcat.

I have a unbuilt Messerschmitt BF 109 kit 505. So I decided to go with it. Also I mounted the motor into the plastic cowling. I think you have a good point about the fuselage.

I have a rubber powered C-130 in the works also. It is a No-Cal Multi intended for a "Two, Three, or Four Off The Floor" type indoor contest where the model has to be a multi motored, No-Cal type scale model (Well, generally recognizable as the airplane it is supposed to represent.), rubber powered, with a 24" or less wing span, and it has to R.O.G.. I was intending to have it finished this morning to test fly at the O.F.F.C. session but life intrudes. Anyway, it should be finished tonight for the Black Sheep meeting. I attached some construction pictures and I'll post a picture of it finished.

For the last 10 issues or so of FLY RC magazine there is a build thread on a balsa B-17. I think You would get a lot of ideas on building Your nacelleles, and much more from it. I have learned a lot just about sheeting, and adhesives.
