Interior surfaces are made from card stock as on the Cherokee build. Basic and rudimentary so far.
I need to improve my upholstery skills. The seats are made from sheet balsa 1/32" thick and covered (poorly) with sail cloth left over from a ship model. I made the panel backing the same way and blackened it with a sharpie marker.
Once the nose area in front of the cockpit is sanded I will make an anti-glare panel from masking tape blackened in the same manner.
I have a blood orange over rootbeer brown exterior paint scheme in mind for this model but its not finalized.

The fuselage was then crushed in a box when we closed up the house, but I set it all aside. Now I've sourced a short kit from England and will build the new fuselage, use the completed rudder and horizontal stabilizer, cover it and complete the 57 year old model. Long overdue.
I look forward to seeing this heirloom model undergo restoration. Since reading Eddie Rickenbacker's accounts of his experiences in the various Nieuport fighters I have had a soft spot for both the 17 and the 28...

There is no comparison between the quality of the laser cut replica 28 parts and the old die cut Guillows parts. But I saved all the broken Guillows fuselage parts and will rebuild the original fuselage along with the new parts fuselage. I"m surprised just how well the old orange Amberoid glue lasted on the old fuselage and tail parts. I'll be taking pictures along the way as suggested. The blueprint firm here copied the original plans so I have a fresh plan upon which to build. Replica Kits makes an awesome De Haviland Comet jet airliner. Contest grade wood for both the 28 and the Comet.

Some progress..she still isn't very pretty to look at - but a nice personality.

I have the wings framed..just need to do the infill and then putty and sand - in the meantime the fuse and tail feathers are ready for primer, and final 400 grit sanding - then a good wipe and then the base coat of white.
I had thought about a polished aluminium finish using monocote but scraped the idea as the seam at the cowling would be pronounced - I want this one to look as smooth as I can get it.

More work done today -

The bottom of both wings are now 'sheeted' and I have started on the upper half of the port wing.
Ihave to work carefully to make sure the infill pieces fit as tightly as possible without putting pressure on the ribs and stringers...dont want gaps but we also want to avoid warping or twisting the wing panel.
I have to say again here that these new LC kits from Guillow are just great.

I have decided to attach the vertical and horizontal tail surfaces to the fuselage prior to painting. This model calls for a tail
fairing to be added at the fuselage where the vert. fin meets the stabilizer. Getting that all to match up smoothly after painting would be impossible. I can paint the wings before attaching them to the finished fuselage - that means painting the wing struts prior to assembly as well.
The wings are all filled and sanded...tomorrow I hope to begin the painting process. Should take three or four days weather permitting.

I have the components painted with the gloss white - three coats sanded and sealed.
Tomorrow I can get the fuse and wingtips and tailfin masked and painted with the accent colors.
Then final assembly, add the panel lines, a final clear gloss lacquer and then the acetate windows and windscreen.
