I am starting the F4U build and always read the prints before I start. I cannot find the kit color scheme that is usually in small note somewhere on the drawings. Does anyone know where?

The f4u-4 were painted overall glossy sea blue.

You can order tissue that is the exact color match which will save you the problem of painting. Spraying with gloss Krylon after covering will bring out the gloss and seal the tissue.

Actually, early birdcage Corsairs were painted a flat light blue gray with light gray undersides, then transitioned to top sides in flat dark blue, sides in flat medium blue, undersides in very light (almost white) gray. Late war were the overall glossy sea blue which weathered flat quickly. Korean War were either the glossy blue, or started appearing in the overall sea gray scheme. A small number of very early Corsairs actually appeared in the colorful yellow wings, silver fuselage, and different colored tails. A quick Google image search will turn up lots of ideas

I have this kit in my to build pile. Looked it over and it has a lot of potential to be a museum quality static model. However, everything I build flies. (Well, they're supposed to anyway.)

As was said,other schemes are possible on different versions.Only the dash 4 had the chin scoop at the 6:00 position.With modifications and research, other Corsairs are possible.But the dash 4 in gsb(glossy sea blue)would look awesome!

I'm going to go with the glossy sea blue and thank you all. Still curious as to where the kit color scheme is located. First one that I have not been able to find. If anyone is working on this build and find where the drawings show the color scheme, please let me know. Its driving me batty!

These types of references can also help with markings for a specific squadron or sometimes a specific airplane.

Yes,the dash 4 in reserve squadrons were light gull gray and white,which went into effect in Feb. 1955.The dash 4 went into service in late 44,and operationally were painted gsb.

The corsair was my first guillows build and inspired me to build about every ww2 model they mad e except for the b25 which was not available at the time that I will most likely build in the future but the colors I found were the gloss blue with grey belly most predominant of ww2 vintage . Enjoy your build for such an exquisitely designed kit, a little heavy for rubber power but with a little home engineering with todays digital tech would make an awesome remote, have fun
