Dumas Kit # 402 Red Lion

Post by heywooood »

I've been working on this one for about a month now. The motor was scratch built as I couldn't find another Williams Brothers Wasp kit in stock anywhere and am not sure I could have made it fit this airframe anyway.

you are too generous and thank you, 42swing -

I am going to be pre-drilling for all of the rigging - I don't want to be measuring and cutting holes after the paint is on it, no matter how small the holes are.
I want to record that process for the channel - there's not too much to it but I thought it could help those who haven't done any rigging to their models yet.
What I do is basic and not completely scale but it is enough to enhance any display model nonetheless.

The landing gear elements need a bit more surface prep first - but here I have cleaned up the connections between the wheel pants, fairings and under wing

I'm going to jump ahead to the completed model -

This project was fun, the Dumas kit and the artwork (decals) supplied by Dumas are beautiful.

just fixed a pretty big gaffe...wheel fairings are red on the inner faces - white only on the outer faces where the Gilmore logo is..

Thank you, Scott - the model came together well and the markings included by Dumas make for a nice representation of Roscoe Turner’s Wedell Williams race plane

Thanks Dennis and OldRZ
Once all of the infill is done, whether it’s a wing or fuselage, the structure is very sturdy.
One of the aspects of these models I like most is their light weight compared to plastic models in similar scale.
The additional sturdiness by comparison is also a bonus.
