Thanks Scott - I appreciate your encouragement. The project was fun and I learned things about the P-47 that were new to me.

The image is a screenshot from MSFS2020 - looks very real to the eye.
She’s a beauty in those colors, agree 100%

Here is another screenshot I took of the Aeroplane Heaven DC-3 in MSFS2020

The realism & detail in that second screenshot is amazing.

I'm looking for idea, instruction, videos concerning how to build hinges for rear gear wheel. I've already built and installed the retractable gizmo but haven't come up with hinges. I don't want to close up that section of the plane with stringers before I hinge the doors because I may have to get my fingers in there.

When this project languished on my bench for two years, I tried everything I could think of to try and re-motivate myself to get back to work on it.
Finally I did resume the work but unfortunately I had made up my mind to just complete the essential model and not concern myself so much with the working features of it.
In the case of the canopy and flaps, most of the work was already done - but the landing gear was another story. This is why the canopy and flaps function as intended but the
gear doesn't. While I can unlock the mains using the removable gun barrels and the gear legs swing as they should, the mechanism does not allow for complete and flush gear retraction into the wings with
the proper fit and capture with the inner doors as I had meant it to do. By the time the model was at this point in assembly / completion I decided to just finish it up best I could. Since there was not going to be complete
main gear functionality I then decided to just fix the tail gear in place and cement the doors to the fuselage in the open position.
All of the models I build serve as testbeds for different ideas I get about how to model some functionality into them as 'features of interest' as well as challenges meant to push my skills forward as a modeler.
Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't. The next 1/16 scale Guillow fighter I build will be the Corsair F4u-4 and I plan to try again to construct it with functional, posable landing gear.
