Old Guillows Super Cub

Post by scigs30 »

I have not been able to log into this forum for sometime now, but I now have that fixed. A couple of months ago I built this old die cut kit right out of the box. The only modifications I made were to correct a couple of parts that were not correct even though they were correct on the plans. I had to sand down the first former for the plastic cowl to fit, I did this before construction. Also, the 3rd former that is part of the top cowl was solid, this would not allow enough room for the rubber so I hollowed it out. The last thing I did was made the motor peg mount match the plans so the peg hole was not up against the last rear former, need to have room for the rubber to loop around. Other than that I built this model as designed with no modifications using the wood that came in the kit. I used Testors fast cement for the construction and she went together well for an old kit. I did use yellow and red tissue attached with 50/50 Elmers/water mix and sealed with thinned Sig dope. I did use the old decals, first I sprayed them with Testors Glosscote so they would not fall apart. I hope to have her flying once the weather warms up.

I like how you layed out the parts to photo.

That's interesting that you used the kit decals and they were red. When I built my old die cut one the decals were blue, just like the box art.

The older kits came with colored tissue and the red decals.
