300 series
I was at hobby lobby to day they have the 30% of sell on all airplanes.I was looking for the spitz 500 series there it was A cessna 170 in 300 series with 24 inch wing span I always like this plane because its a tail drager!There is one at a abandon airfield satting by it self out in nowheres you can,t get to it its looked down thight.But I see it about ones a week.Well IAM EXCITED!I think I start the wings first They put a pamplet in the kit showing how to convert to eletric.Very cool any advise will be very helpful thank you!

Great choice on the 300 series 170. Next time HobbyLobby has a 40% off coupon I plan to pick one up.
It's always a balance between strength and weight. I think with a Guillows ac keeping the weight down is the most important thing, unless you are using gas or electric power.
According to my research, a large light weight and slower turning prop. works best with rubber powered ac. Something about an ideal power to cruise profile. Perhaps other readers could give us more information on this subject.
I think the 170 , if built light in weight , could be a very good performer.

I really like that series 600 Cessna 180. I think the Javelin in the 600 series would have the greater flying potential because of the aerodynamics. But the Javelin doesn't look much like an actual ac. I was lucky enough to obtain the 602 Piper Super Cub ( unopened box) at a yard sale. I think between are two ac , your 180 should be the better performer.
To compare the 170 to the 180 can be a bit difficult.
Both are high wing so they tend to be less difficult to trim.
The 170 is a larger ac that can also be converted to gas or electric. This could mean a design with greater finished weight due to stronger fuse and wing requirements. Not the best for rubber flying.
On the other hand,the 180 of yours is a light build dedicated to rubber flying. That's very good. I think with proper construction and trim the 180 should be an excellent flyer.
Please enter a search for Marin Aero Club They have great information on building aeroplanes. Be sure to look at the ten steps for trimming.
Don't worry about the tissue yet ( Blue and Yellow colored tissue would look great) try to get the airframe evenly constructed and think light weight.

I too belive that the cessna 180 would be a better choise for rubber band flight it looks to be much lighter. Lots of lumber in the cessna 170.The kit gave me a long thick rubber band 1/4 inch wide.I wounder if I schould cut this down the middle make tow strands.I tryed it with the 1/4 single stand on the uncovered fuse looks to be to much trouqe.They show a rubber loop drive system but it just a example no detail on how to build it.It supose to adjust the thrust some how.Iam working on the wings today.cool stuff

Thinking about building a slided bar in the fuse to relase tentsion slowly!It will move back as the front rubber band releases.The bar will have small rubber bands that go to the tail.These rubbers will not be allow to twist with the main allowing the main to release at a slower rate keeping trust to the porp to a minium.Just a idear!Then again thiner rubber bands may be better!

Interesting idea with the sliding bar/tensioner rubber bands. In effect it would keep a somewhat constant tension on the main motor band? Great hobby that gets ol' brain to working like that.

What's this rubber loop drive and thrust adjustment? I'm not familiar with it.
