Series 200

Post by mi77915 »

Hi,

I am about to re-enter this great hobby after being out of it for at least 10+ years! I really miss building these models. My question is: I am interested in building the Thomas Morse Scout kit and have read through Guillows web site and noticed that it does not list what covering material is included with the kit. Does the kit contain tissue paper or silk span?

Thanks,

Mine came with tissue. I use coverlite though because I build them for electric flight and covering weight isn't a big problem. I also like coverlite for display models.
A bumblebee isn't supposed to fly but does.
My plane is supposed to fly but doesn't.
Balances out doesn't it : )

Tissue.
I'm not aware guillow's provide any other material for this.

I use Solite (Solar Film - Lite)

Tissue or Silkspan

Post by earlhouse »

The 300 series and 500 series kits I have have tissue. The 400 series, 800 series and 1000 series has very light silkspan. Tower Hobbies has the K&S 000 very light silkspan, 30 sheets for about $34.00 and I have been using it on the 300 and 500 series kits. It is stronger than tissue and lighter. It has some wet strength and is very easy to put on wet.

I'm convinced. Gotta try it.

Tissue or Silkspan

The 200 series kits have tissue. When you look at the Guillows spare parts site, those that is listed as 10 x 30 inch and 20 x 30 inch tissue are tissue covering. Those listed as 15 x 35 inch tissue are light silkspan.

Guillow part #122 is the light silkspan , much much easier to put on wet than the tissue. they supply tissue with the 200 series.
