ADW, This plane was covered with the kit tissue following the covering diagram on the plans and the little booklet. Normally I cover in large pieces, but wanted to give it a try. I must say the Guillows way was real easy and the covering came out smooth. I would not try this with colored tissue, because I think you would see the overlap too much. But then that could be a cool thing, like the skins on real planes. Also I did some touch up work on the paint, and I am a little more happy. Should have it flying next week.
im gettting the f6f hellcat today... i was going to try to make the covering my best... over the last four years i have been experimenting and i seemed to have found a decent way to cover... i like to hear other people's input tho
I'm going to use craft store type tissue because of the colors, what color would look good on a p-40? preferably only 2 colors, i cant make camo layers or anything like that, I cant paint for my life either...
The Corsair did not fly, one try and it crashed and the wing broke. The P-40 took some trimming, but it ended up flying ok for about 30 seconds. The nose cone broke on the first trim flight.

Some of my sheets were really hard too, i sanding for an hour but the parts would't come out, this sheet was the one with the fusalage formers, so they were all cracked split and twisted, i couldnt cut notches, even my xacto knife tip broke off! It feels like Oak! its only my second kit, my first was the bird dog, with good balsa.
Im also using metallic craftstore tissue, hopefully it will work, its a little haevy buy alot stronger than guillows
when i cover, i use white glue, and i put it over all the frams that touch the tisue. however, sometimes i get wrincles on the outside edges. how do i avoid this? should i brush on water to get the wrincles out?
