Anyone Build A Zero

Post by LandSpeed »

Hi
I'm building my first balsa plane and have had lots of great help on this forum. Just wondering I have not seen anything about the #404 Zero. I'm thinking of getting the ME 109 if this build finishes OK.
Thanks

I have the plan for the 400 series Zeke blown up to 90" wingspan, and will probably begin the build in May. (assuming a home is found for the plane before then that is *G*)

Last time I built this one was for 1/2a U-control... She's a skooter...

Shayne,

Good luck with your first build. I just received my Zero yesterday and I'm excited to start working on it. Do you build models, free flights or rc conversions? This will be my second guillow's build/rc conversion. Here is a video on youtube of a Zero #404 conversion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9pMzgt02hI
I am planning on building this plane much lighter than my first. My P-40 #405 is rather heavy and isn't exactly a great flyer...but it works. I proably won't start the Zero for about a month but I will post some build photos as I get going. Do you have any photos of your build?

I built the 400 series zero years ago for freeflight, way too heavy. Ended up putting a gas engin on it and it flew great. The 500 series Rufe looks great and flies great as a freeflight plane.

Shayne

I have built the Zero, its a easy build, and produces a great looking model. I build for static display so cant comment on flying capabilities.

Scigs, great stuff man, thanks for sharing the pics.

Zero

Finished one for my son last year and it came out great. The guillow's kit doesn't emphasize the bulge in the fuselage just in front of the canopy, and I remember trying to paint the canopy frame free-hand. But the plane came out great. Really a nice kit and like all the Guillow's kits a substantial frame. To relate, I was finishing off a Dumas Bearcat last night and after covering, two coats of clear, getting the canopy set, broke two stringers on the top of the fuselage. So don't complain to me about the heavy balsa in these kits.
