Engine details

Post by cliffm »

Like Flash52 says look up the plane on a web-site so you can see the actual details. When I built my pt-17 it has the same dilemna. I added some intake and exhaust plumbing and the plans had no detail for the center of the top wing. You will be able to add some realism that the kit does not feature. Putting these features on your model just makes it stand out from the run of the mill kits. Yes, some of the plastic parts are minimalistic at best so I handcarve and fabricate parts at will to get the results desired.

Looks better now with the lighter aluminum color. Nice job.
A bumblebee isn't supposed to fly but does.
My plane is supposed to fly but doesn't.
Balances out doesn't it : )

Paint looks like quite an improvement. I was going to say on the last post that the lump of clay included in your kit also works for filling those awkward spots and places that are hard to shape. It takes paint pretty good too. The prop spinner on my Aeronca is made from it,you just don't want to handle it after painting, it's a little fragile but it looks nice.

I built this kit when I was a kid for a Jumbo Scale contest and it flew pretty good. I think I shaved a little weight and I covered it was Peck Polymers Gray tissue. I may have to build another some day, maybe when they come out with a laser cut version.

so ive added been working on some badly needed touch ups. i used some caulk to fill in gaps and to make where parts meet together look like welds on like on the real plane. ive also gotten the wing strt caps mostly finished. i made the general shape out of balsa. then glued it down, then i took some clay to make it look smoother and to make it connect all the way.
