Flew my Guillows and Comet kits today

Post by scigs30 »

First up was the Comet Ercoupe. Once again built per the plans and she flew great, my wife said she flew for over a minute. We have more pictures but most come out blurry. I have some video, but still messing with it.

The Curtiss Robin is another Comet build that flew great. Did require some weight and downthrust.

The Guillows Bird Dog flew great after a chunk of weight was added to the nose. She caught a thermal and I had to chase her down, then she hit a tree. Very minimal damage.

Last but not least was my stock Guillows Aeronca, built with everything from the kit. I did use a Peck Prop. After nose clay and down thrust, she stayed in the air for quiet some time, then the landing was tragic, oh well have to build another. I used 2 lengths of 1/8 rubber for power. You can see the chunk of clay under the nose. This is how I trim it, then once she flies smooth, I move the clay into the cowl. Here she only flew once as you can see.

Ouch, pity about your lovely Aeronca!

All your flights looked great in the pics, I could not look at the videos though, when I clicked on the link it went to my You tube videos, not yours?! Am I doing something daft?

I think it is me. Here is another link. It is a shame, first we shot video of me trimming the planes, that's why the video is short. Once they were trimmed we took pictures, then the 3rd flight was going to be YouTube video. Well, I took some trimming video, then our disk was filled up. The only actual flight videoed was the Bostonian flying away. We are still new to this video thing.

Nice shot of a sad moment, the Aeronca smacking the fence.
