A2Z, Penn Valley Hobby Center, Shorty's Basement, balsawoodinc.com

A.C.Supply has about the best prices on kits and shipping. And shipping is free after $100.

John:

AlthoughI'm a big fan of Tower Hobbies they do NOT carry any of the Guillow's line. I checked some time ago.

Are the Guillow models going the way of the Dodo?

I just tried to find Guillow's on the Great Hobbies website and alas, they don't carry them anymore either. Is Guillows still in business and if yes, where? I primarily build and fly RC electric planes but also enjoy gluing up the much smaller and relaxing balsa kits. These balsa kits are also easily converted to electric RC with the new miniature electronics that are available but not for beginners to fly!

AA:

Yes, they are still in business as I recently bought direct from the Guillow's site and am awaiting the arrival of mt Series 200 Thomas Morse Scout possibly today.

They charge $6.95 shipping

Where do they ship from? I'm just an old modeller who remembers when you could buy balsa kits from the local corner store, crank up the rubber motor and have an afternoon's fun without a processor, chips or noise! I'm into e-flight, for about 10 years, nearest thing to silent flight but very little of it requires construction in balsa as most are cast foam.

Penn Hobby is a couple blocks from my house and, like many hobby shops, have lots of guillows kits in stock as well as many other brands.
Nice folks and I have bought a lot of stuff from them.
A bumblebee isn't supposed to fly but does.
My plane is supposed to fly but doesn't.
Balances out doesn't it : )

Penn Valley is one of the best! They called me once to tell me that something I wanted was not available but they had something else that would work. Who calls you on the phone? They have a large selection of Comet kits also. I just ordered one an hour ago. Check it out at

Penn Valley is the best.

I guess no one has bothered to check the price difference between penn valley and a.c. supply as there is quite a difference, in shipping it's about the same. My experience with a.c. was faster shipping and cheaper prices with exemplary customer service. I may be a little predjudiced because of using them when teaching, but we always shopped for the best bang for our buck.

Penn Valley is a couple blocks away so I don;t have to pay shipping. Walking into Penn Valley is like walking back in tiime to me.
I love just walking around their cramped little store. Anyone know of other hobby shops that have been around, relatively unchanged, since the 50's?
