To build scale balsa planes you don't have to be crazy but it does help a lot!

rubbing alcohol i would asume.

Rubbing alcohol is mostly water, so I'd think it would still cause problems with the glue.

I use a mix of 50/50 water/alcohol
To build scale balsa planes you don't have to be crazy but it does help a lot!

I finished my Guillows Aeronca for the 2011 Guillows Challenge, total weight as shown is 28 grams. This will be my last 300 series build until the laser cut versions are released.

How did you get it to come in at 28g? I just finished one of these a few weeks ago and after leaving out half of the wing ribs, drilling lightening holes, and not even covering the fuselage it still came in at 35g without the rubber.

You think it was because you were picky about the kit you purchased from the beginning?

On the third powered flight for mine, a wind gust turned it upside down and slammed it into the ground. It shattered almost exactly as yours did with the two wings coming off.

What are you doing to get the part ID letters to go away? Your bare bones photos are so nice.

The P-38 is arguably the best... Forget that, it is THE BEST fighter of world war two, and is epically AWESOME!

Clean and neat as any Guillow's plane I've ever seen. It seems your a very methodical builder, taking your time with every step. Thanks for sharing the pics...

I decided not to use the kit wood since the die cut was pretty bad, so I bought some Midwest Balsa to build this. My last Aeronca was built with the kit wood and she come out to 48 grams. I really do hope that Guillows uses 8-12 lb/ft balsa in their laser cut versions, that will make a big difference.
