Should The stain be dark or light on this? Opinions greatfully accepted. :D

Thats a great idea. I think internet access to that booklet would encourage building these models.

My opinion on the stain would be: dark. No real data to back it up, just what I think looks good.

Should I seal the wood with dope or just stain then varnish? I have sanded with fine grade so it is very smooth already

I would say just stain and then varnish. Thats typical way of doing things with wood furniture.

Your building skills may not be "out of this world" or even "out of control"

natural daylight plus better color combo=better pics.

i went to home depot today and got myself some of this bombay mahogany gloss stain with the polyurethane right in it. costed me ten bucks for htis big thing:

here are three coats of this stuff on the prop. i might want to go a little darker, and add another coat. idk...

decided one more coat looks better, and there it is. still gunna put a "retainer" that will look scale and will hold the prop on.

thanks supercruiser. ive learned quite a bit from this one here. i wish my camera could capture more detail. you would really be able to see it then, but for now im stuck with realitivly poor lighting and an ok camera.
