i wont start this one until my Mustang is finished (if i can wait that long) but she'll be on a cox engine.

plans are easily torn, so gotta be careful.

plastic parts have some damage, but no prob. also, seem to be missing something but dunno what it is.. yet...

would ya look at that? plywood parts. now i dont have to re- cut a firewall out of plywood and all that good stuff

tissue is probably un useable, but maybe i can get the paper paterns to work. they may not bend very well, so i might have to end up copying them, or even getting new ones.

weight isnt too much of a problem, but the wood's die cuts are actually pretty nice considering the age.

im know im missing the nose plastic bit, so ill have to get a new one...

plywood, eh? Not the space age technology material they use now? That must be an old kit. My Corsair kit is close to 20 years old and has the high tech material. Going R/C with mine, some day

Actually, SimpleFlyer gave me this kit, and I told him that because I'd already built about a hundred Corsairs, I knew of a young man who'd probably do a nice job with this kit, so...

I have had kits for 50 years they build just as good as the factory fresh kits. thant bent wing bird is going to be a exciteing build to follow if your going to put a gas engine or electric you better beef up the front fuselodge with skins. have fun you gpot your work cut out for you.

indeed, i have my work cut out for me. i think ill use the vintage kit parts and everything to build my u control. then, ill either remake the balsa parts or ill buy new die cuts or something. plus, get more plastic bits. i might as well buy another kit if im gunna build another one for static, which is what id like to do.

ADW, while you're ordering replacement parts, I'd take a close look at the canopy. It's hard to tell from the picture, but that looks more like a P-47 canopy than a Corsair's. Looking forward to seeing your progress on this.

the kit had two canopies. the other one (which i did not photograph) is the correct one. i dont have decals, and am missing a bomb half.

i really want to build U control and Static. i was looking into whether it would just be easier/cheaper to buy a new kit for static. it would be a ton of work to make new parts from scratch, not to mention the prices of balsa at the LHS.

i know that making these parts move and all for a fully functional plane is extremely complicated, so it will take plenty of decodeing. i was thinking about copying the plans a couple of times, so avoid riping apart the already fragile plans. i might just order some new ones. this will be decided after a massive evaluation.

i know that i am going to need help from masters who have completed a fully functional plane like this, because it will be a challange for me. i know for one that just bending the wires will be very dificult, and will probably requrie me to get nicer plyers, or whatever someone recomends for it.

the mods necesary are prety straight forward, but every mod has to be made BEFORE it goes together, or at least most of the mods. its going to take lots of time of studying the blueprints for it. thats ok, consiereing i am wanting to build it twice.

im going to do a massive part check, to find out exactly what it is i am missing, and i do know i am missing quite a few parts.

This is a great kit and I cannot wait unitil Guillows comes out with the laser cut version. I have a old Sterling Corsair that is RC and I am converting that to electric. The Sterling kit is a great kit.

tonight, ill go through and bag off all the balsa parts that came in the kit by major frame of the plane. (wing, fuse, etc.)

this way, i should be able to break it down frame by frame and check out what parts are missing.

notches cut out. there are a couple formers missing. one was drying after a small bit chiped off, and the other found its way into the wing parts bag.

these parts didnt need notches. i got most of the parts out quite easily.

starting to cut notches into the wing parts.

once you have cut out the parts and notched them, they actually look pretty good. not as aged as it looked attached to the sheets.

some more progress from last night:

first plane i have seen where the leading edge is built up out of smaller sized stock.

not a ton of trouble cutting them out. about 6 parts broke off, but they were easily repaired

i cant really do any more construction until they are done tileing the bar area in the basement. unforchunatly, the area they are tileing blocks off the only entrance into my makeshift model area. i wanted to start the construction of the corsair in my new model area, where i have plenty more room to expand too. a desk has even been made for me that is about 7 feet long and 3 feet wide. also has a big shelf underneath it. plus the new lighting will be very beneficial.

alrighty. so beggining the fuse.

i had to use CA on the keel because of the way it fit. it would have been quite problematic to try to use white glue. other than the keel, all white glue construction. pieces fit in ok. i havent built the new corsair so i wouldnt be able to compare.

bought myself a cox .09 medallion, a 7 inch prop, and a taton motor mount for 30 bucks on ebay. gunna b fun...
