When build says "break" TE/LE???

Post by buglecall »

When the plan say "break" the trailing edge what is the way to do it? partially cut through then bend and glue. This must leave a gap though.
Or do you guys always cut the parts for dihedral?

if you are building one of the small scale warbirds or one with a thin le/te, then i just cut and crack. add a generous amount of glue, and you are good to go. picture a piece of wood lets say 1/16" thick and 1/8" wide. if we have this lying flat on a surface, and we want to crack it and glue it for dihedral or something, you might want to go about it like this: use a razor blade, and cut through it partially. then, when you apply your bend, the "trench" or cut you have just made actually closes when the bend is made. this works well with thinner trailing edges.

for cracked ribs I will cut half through and glue.

I haven't come across a "break" LE/TE but I would be most inclined to build in the dihedral with seperate parts depending on how the structure is at the dihedral.

Donno whatch working on so I can't say for sure.

yes, like makmov said, it is helpful to know what you are dealing with in terms of the plane/kit

This term is on the plans for a 204 kit,fokker tri-plane.It shows "break" here at rib for di-hed,LE is 1/8 x 3/16,TE 1/8 x 1/2.

The dr1 doesn't hv dihedral unless you are building for rubber powered free flight
