B-17 flying fortress
I plan on building my B-17 as a U-Control model. I see where it says to only use two .049 engines. I was wondering if I could use four .020 engines. I just think it would look better with something on all for nacells. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I'm useing 4 Brodak motors on two timers. Inboard on one timer outboard on another. With all four going you need longer lines. Pressing a button is so easy compaired to getting 4 Cox tuned and running. Single engine go gas but after years of multi electric keeps them straight and true. With that setup you can run inboard alone on stock lines or press 2nd button on ship for fun times.

Sounds like an exciting project. I'd love to see that model fly. My question is what do you do with any multi-engine control line model when the engine(s) closest to the pilot fail? They are glow engines so you can't rig a 'kill' switch.
Thinking about it some, you could start the left wing two engines first, that way they are going to run out of fuel before the right wing two engines. At least that the theory.

I use two batteries. One for inboard and one outboard. Each battery is rigged to a electronic speed control (you need 4 ESC). Outboard ESC plugged into Brodak C/L switch on plane, inboard ESC plugged into 2nd switch. When your ready to fly press button, motors will turn a tiny bit saying they are ready. Seven seconds later each ESC will go full power. Motors will stay at full power for a set amount of time then they will cut out for a split second, that is a alert telling you they are about to power down so you need to prepare for landing. You could run all 4 motors off a single timer and single battery but the drag would empty a LiPO very fast.
You need 2 aileron Y-cables to attach each ESC to battery
4 BH-1837 Electric Motor
2 BH-1845 Battery 7.4V x 850
4 BH-1862 ESC 12 amp
2 BH-1868 Timer
4 APC 6 x 5.5

Brenda, and others
do you think the B-17 could be made to fly on rubber power?

Yes it can. You need to make a prop holder. ROG only

Re: B-17 flying fortress
I saw a B-24 at a contest I went to and I saw his prop holder. He hand launched the B-24. What is the reason for ROG on the B-17. I never got to see exactly how and how much rubber was in the B-24 but it flew really great.

ROG you can do yourself. Don't need extra hands. Also with hand launch the craft has to be somewhat level or it will start in a yard dart dive. ROG pull prop holder and zoom easy.

That is the B-24 I was talking about. Do you think it is a Guillows kit???
How did he get that much time out of such short motors??

That is not a Guillow's kit. That is a scratch build by Chris Starleaf from his own plans. Chris has done well with that model at FAC events. I'm not sure what his highest time was, but doing well at FAC events says a lot. He normally designs and builds multi engine models every year for FAC SCALE, JUMBO SCALE, OR GIANT SCALE. Always landing at or near the top in each event. Just search his name on Youtube. You should be able to see many of his models in flight.
