Anyone Doing Any Building?

Post by Scott »

Is anyone starting/building/completing any kits these days?

I'm off work with a work-induced hernia so I think I might finally finish
covering my Cessna 180 soon.

I have other Guillow's kits to start as well,Porter,Fairchild,Bird Dog,
Cessna 170,Super Cub(602)

Finishing up a MOJO, a British rubber model, built from plans, then will start on the Guillows Beaver, followed by the turbo Porter

I googled MOJO,that's a sharp looking airplane.

I also have the Beaver & Porter kits.I don't know when I'll get around
to starting them.

Well, let's see. This weekend's contest is the Don Martin Cup for rubber powered helicopters, ornithopters and wingless autogyros. I built another one of my Air Augers last Saturday and trimmed it on Sunday morning so I won't be trimming this one at the contest. My Sillycopter is so beat up that I need to build another one. I'll use the same rotor hub so that will take about an hour. I have a fuselage and tail that I can use for an autogyro so it will take a couple of hours to make another rotor hub, mount and rotor.

The Limited Pennyplane contest is a week from Wednesday. It only takes about an hour to build one using CA but I can't get to the gym this Wednesday so I will be trimming that one at the contest.

Next month's OFFC contest is Legal Eagle and I have my One Night in Jail where I took the Legal Eagle concept a bit too far.

The October OFFC contest is Unlimited Scale so I will have to finish the Guillow's Piper Cub 95 that I started kit bashing into an L-4 a few years back.

I like the Sillycopter :)

Nice looking plummage on your Legal Eagle.

The L-4 conversion sounds very interesting KF.

Well, the Limited Penny Plane contest at the OFFC next Wednesday is a non-starter. Once again a doctor has scheduled an appointment for me on a Wednesday morning. I swear, sometimes I think these doctors don't want me to fly. Getting old ain't for sissies. The Don Martin Cup, helicopter contest is on Sunday Morning. I will have the Air Auger and a new Sillycopter there. My new autogyro (I don't have a name for that one.) will be a bit iffy.

I made the mistake of thinking that the contest was last Sunday and went to the 'Grassy Knoll'. I got some flying in anyway and trimmed out the Air Auger for today's contest. However, Bill Watson saw it fly and realized that his current rubber powered helicopter wasn't going to cut it so he built four new models and brought the best one to the contest this morning. Dave Gee also built new models this week and brought them to the contest. I refreshed my Sillycopter but it wasn't doing that well this morning so I went with the Air Auger.

I finished third with 98.2 seconds. Bill was first with 143.4 seconds and Dave was second with 112.6. Dave finished first in ornithopter. I didn't finish my Chinook or my autogyro but no one else showed up with them either. Every participant was given a "Don Martin Cup".

The late Don Martin hated helicopters which was why the club named the contest after him but for many years he was a good sport about it and showed up at the contest to award prizes.
