Considered to be the single most important aircraft in the history of air transportation, the DC-3 first flew in 1935. Douglas Aircraft built it as a replacement for the smaller DC-2. Its 180 MPH cruising speed made it the fastest of its day, and carried 11 more passengers than the Boeing 247. By 1938, 80 percent of all American commercial airline traffic was carried on DC-3’s. During World War 2, the military conversion of the DC-3, the C-47 was used by the thousands in every theatre of the war. After the war, many of the surplus C-47’s were converted back to civilian service.

This is a favorite model of mine since I was a kid! I built entire model and as I was about to start skinning it with tissue the phone rang and I stepped away and instantly stepped on the fuselage and crushed the balsa frame. The plans were so well detailed that I got some replacement balsa and was able to fashion the exact bulkheads and stringers I needed to repair the work. I painted it as a silver airliner and used it to teach about aerodynamics in my 5th grade class. After years of students handling it I stripped the skin off and now it’s repainted a a world war ll troop drop plane. My father and I have completed all the WWll fighter models. Years of fun and memories building and flying.

This DC-3 kit is beautifully detailed! Like the Fullsize Aircraft, one of the Best Features is→ WOW!→ AMERICAN MADE!→ BEST in the World! The DC-3/C-47, has ALWAYS been my favorite airplane since September, 1969 when my Father gave me a DC-3 model kit like this one before He died. I have built many miniature aircraft which are NOT toys, and have also flown R/C since 1980. If YOU enjoy Flying Machines, buy this kit!
